2023 HONDA EV Green Light? HRV And CRV Hybrid To Bridge The Possibilities
Honda in 2023 might not do much of upgrades or updates on their automobile products. But there is a high chance that the Japanese brands start to show their path in bridging or approaching the EV with the CRV and HRV hybrids. There are some rumors and concepts regarding the 2023 Honda EV, which likely appear thanks to the CRV and HRV's success. But how much should you hope?
Some news on 2023 Honda EVs to expect
Up to the last quarter of 2022, there is at least two news about the possible EV from Honda. The rumors round up around the 2023 honda prologue for the SUV teased at around May 2022. In earlier months, Honda also teased its 2023 Electric SUV prototype with Honda E: Ny1. What to expect?
1. The 2023 Honda Prologue Teased
Teased in May 2022, Prologue is one of the expected EVs from Honda. It is said that the SUV will likely hit the north American showrooms in 20223, which spark noise for the EV market. Honda itself has a huge hope for the car, forecasting 500,000 electric cars to be sold per year in North America by 2030. Is it too much to hope for the 2023 Honda EV?
Probably no. The Prologue was teased to be a rival for Tesla model Y and the new Hyundai Ioniq 5. Unfortunately, there is no exact explanation or details from the Japanese brand about the car, aside from the 724km electric range from its Ultium battery technology. It was a specification told by General Motors, the partner of Honda for this electric car.
2. The Rumored E: Ny1 Prototype
If the Prologue is planned to reach North America first, the e: Ny1 prototype is prearranged to appear in Europe. Announced in March 2022, the rumor said that Prototype will be the second full EV car in Europe from Honda. It will be the bigger version of the Honda E Supermini, which include improved room, versatility, and ranges.
It is said that the Prototype will go along with the hybrid C-segment SUV with CRV or HRV. Meanwhile, the car can reach as much as the new B segment SUV EV. Once again, there is no technical information about the possible 2023 Honda EV. But the exterior is based heavily on the SUV's e: concept, which is similar to HRV, Hyundai Kona Electric, or Vauxhall Mokka-e.
The expected hybrid cars from Honda
While waiting for the fully EV car from Honda, the brands have already stated their mind to producing more hybrids. The company mentioned the idea of bridging the option toward EV. That is why the CRV and HRV got some overhaul on the engine to run with an extra electric motor. Is it good enough to pick in 2022?
1. 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid
In CRV, the main point of the hybrid option goes on powertrain improvement. The hybrid system is only available for the Sport and Sport Touring trim, running with a punchy 2L four-cylinder with double electric motors to spout 204 ponies. The combination gets the best fuel economy with front-wheel drive achieving around 43/36 for city/ highway.
Despite not fully running as2023 Honda EV, CRV always has its charm for family cars. It runs with front-wheel drive, it also has better fuel economy, or goes with the standard yet impressive performance. On the inside, everything is modern, which some driving position improvements large console bin, extra leg room, and fancy infotainment.
2. 2023 Honda HR-V hybrid
Despite not being available in the U.S, the Europe market has the HRV hybrid with similar performance as civic. The car now has a 2-liter four-cylinder engine, which is a bit lacking. But the similar architecture of the Civic gives hope to the fans of the 180-hp turbocharged engine. Along with the hybrid powertrain, it will make HRV a nice introduction to the 2023 Honda EV.
Honda EV might be a bit further to wait, considering the full EV cars are just a concept or teaser. The most you can hope for is the release in 2024 or around 2030 for the full EV with the best performance from Honda. But, the CRV and HRV hybrids have become a great sign of how the company keeps on improving its products. This likely lead to EV release sooner as possible.
